The Dalmatian community of the Far North were drawn to New Zealand for the trade of kauri gum, a sought-after commodity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They brought with them the rich culture of Yugoslavia with lively dance and music. In this radio documentary produced in 1965, we hear some of their stories. Includes interviews with Val Urlich, Luka Lunjevich, Clem Jurlina, Mary Yelavich and Mili Srhoj. Produced by Jim Henderson, author of Open Country, for the NZBC.
